DOT Workshop CME Information

Credit Designation

This program has been approved for 8.0 AOA Category 1-A CME Credits. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Learning Objectives

By the end of the AOCOPM DOT FMCSA NRCME training, the participants will be able to:

  • Prepare CDME to appropriately perform CMV driver Physical Qualification Standards & Medical Guidance.
  • Understand and apply FMCSA resources in the performance of Medical Exams.
  • Review CDME responsibilities CMV driver history & exam, and the CDME role in drivers needing waivers, and Skills Performance Examinations. 
  • Use examples to introduce and reinforce, focusing on mandatory and likely testable topics.

Statement of Need

The Department of Transportation, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has required that all healthcare professionals whose scope of practice authorizes them to perform physical examinations, as defined by the state in which they practice, and who intend to perform physical examinations and issue medical certificates for commercial motor vehicle (CMV) drivers to meet the requirements of Section 391.41 of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSRs) must be certified and listed on FMCSA’s National Registry prior to performing DOT FMCSA medical examinations.

The American Osteopathic College of Occupational and Preventive Medicine has developed a comprehensive curriculum that exceeds the eight mandatory topics outlined in the FMCSA core curriculum specifications and prepares registrants to sit for the Certified Medical Examiner test. FMCSA regulations and guidelines are reviewed regularly, and the training is updated as required.

Target Audience

The course is open to DO's, MD's, and as well as other medical practitioners who desire the training.

Estimated Time to Complete the Course

8.5 to 9.0 hours (due to necessary breaks)

Instructional Format

Live and interactive Zoom webinar or at AOA Online Learning.

Method of Participation

For AOA Online Learning:  Sign into course.  Ask questions via the message feature.  Complete the pre-test, post-test, and evaluation via the course site.  Print certificate of completion from course site.

For in-person and Zoom:  You will receive an email with detailed instructions and Zoom link.
